Police have arrested a man after a bag filled with guns was found in Liverpool city centre.
Officers made the arrest after the replica firearms were uncovered in Jamaica Street at around 7.35am on Friday following reports of a disturbance and concerns for the safety of a man.
A bag was said to be lying next to the floor in the Baltic Triangle area of the city which was found next to a car with a smashed back passenger window.
The 43-year-old man was originally detained on suspicion of criminal damage and theft from a motor vehicle but was later re-arrested for possessing an imitation firearm in a public location.
“It it believed that the replica firearms had been removed from a vehicle which was parked nearby, ” a Merseyside Police spokesperson confirmed.
“The owner of the weapons has voluntarily surrendered them to Merseyside Police for destruction.”
