Jurgen Klopp blocked Liverpool FC midfielder’s exit, claims agent

Lucas Leiva’s move to Galatasaray allegedly collapsed due to intervention from Jurgen Klopp.

The Turkish club revealed that they were pursuing alternative targets after a proposed transfer for the Liverpool midfielder, 29, fell through earlier this month.

Now in the final 12 months of his current Anfield contract, Besiktas also expressed an interest in Lucas, who has made no secret of his desire to pursue first-team football.

But agent Metin Korkmaz, who acted as a go-between on Galatasaray’s behalf in negotiations, has claimed that the Reds manager put a stop to the deal.

He said: “Klopp was behind the transfer hitting the rocks.

“He wants Lucas to stay and the player had to listen.

“If it was up to Lucas, he would have made the transfer.”
