Serie A giants enter race for Everton FC defender

Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori has emerged as a target for Roma.

Funes Mori joined the Blues last summer in a £9 million deal from River Plate and has attracted the Serie A club’s attention with a series of strong performances.

Gazzetta World claim interest in the Argentina international comes in the wake of Roma’s decision to offload Leandro Castan and Ervin Zukanovic earlier this summer.

The Giallorossi are understood to be preparing an initial loan offer with an option to make the deal permanent but Everton are determined to hold onto Funes Mori.

John Stones’ likely departure this summer, with a host of Premier League clubs interested, prompted Ronald Koeman to stand firm on the 25-year-old.

Roma are thought to be considering Benfica’s Victor Lindelof and Hoffenheim centre-back Niklas Sule as alternatives signings to Funes Mori.
