Liverpool FC fail in last-ditch bid for Barcelona-bound star

Liverpool have failed in their last-ditch attempts to sign Lucas Digne.

The Paris Saint-Germain left-back is reportedly on the verge of a £13.7 million move to Barcelona despite the Reds’ attempts to secure his services.

Anfield officials made an initial approach for Digne last summer prior to his loan switch to Roma and renewed their interest as Jurgen Klopp looks to remedy his full-back problem.

Roma were also pursuing a permanent deal for Digne following a successful season-long stint.

But the Daily Mirror claim that Liverpool’s bid to lure the 22-year-old came too late to prevent La Liga champions Barcelona from winning the race for his signature.

Efforts to land Ben Chilwell hit a stumbling block earlier this summer and Leicester City’s promising defender remained a priority target.
