Everton FC waiting in the wings as Dutch star deliberates over his future

Everton are reportedly targeting a renewed pursuit of Newcastle United forward Georginio Wijnaldum.

Wijnaldum scored 11 goals in an impressive debut season in the Premier League, but is understood to be considering his future following the Magpies’ relegation to the Championship.

And the Newcastle Evening Chronicle claim that the Holland international could be back on the Goodison hierarchy’s wishlist this summer as he ponders leaving Tyneside.

The 25-year-old almost moved to Goodison Park last summer prior to sealing a £14.4 million switch to St James’ Park.

Premier League rivals Southampton have also been credited with an interest in the player who, up to now, has been non-committal over his future.

“Every day I am being asked about my future, not just by journalists, but also by my friends and family,” he told Fox Sports in a recent interview.

“My first focus is the national team and then after the holidays I’ll see what happens. I’m working on it, but it’s not easy.”

Newcastle, however, are believed to be relaxed about the situation given the fact that Wijnaldum has four years to run on his current contract.
