Liverpool FC hero linked with shock Anfield return

Pepe Reina could be in line for a surprise move back to Liverpool, according to reports.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp has already strengthened his goalkeeping department this summer, completing the £4.7 transfer of Mainz goalkeeper Loris Karius following concerns over the form of current number one Simon Mignolet.

But with Adam Bogdan set to leave Anfield this summer and the future of Belgian international Mignolet far from certain, the German may still be on the lookout for another reliable stopper to provide cover for Karius.

Italian news outlet Corriere dello Sport writes that ex-Liverpool star Reina has emerged as a potential option for former Klopp, with a cut-price transfer mooted for the wantaway veteran.

The 33-year-old Napoli goalkeeper is still a popular figure with the red half of Merseyside after a glittering nine-year spell with the club which brought the 2005-06 FA Cup and 2011-12 League Cup trophy wins

And Reina, who made 394 appearances during his spell on Merseyside, is reportedly keen on returning to Liverpool, despite ending the season as the Serie A side’s undisputed first-choice.
