Winger rejected Liverpool ‘to win trophies’

Wesley Sneijder claims he turned down Liverpool in order to win trophies.

Sneijder was linked with a move to Anfield in 2013 as he prepared to end four success-laden years with Inter Milan but instead opted to join Galatasaray.

The former Holland international lifted the Super Lig twice as well as three Turkish Cups following his switch to the Istanbul-based club.

Now 33, Snejider admits that the option to move to the Reds did emerge before his move to Galatasaray.

And the ex-Real Madrid winger, currently playing for Qatari side Al-Gharafa, insists that his decision to reject Liverpool was motivated by silverware.

He said: “Many clubs wanted to know when I was leaving Inter, and Liverpool was one of those clubs, so people were surprised I chose Galatasaray.

“Why Galatasaray and not Liverpool? But I am a winner.

“II play for prizes, so I went to Galatasaray because I thought that I would win more at Galatasaray and be champion than at Liverpool, and I think afterwards that I made the right choice.

“I have had nice years in Turkey.”
