Allardyce targeting West Ham reunion

Sam Allardyce has added Aaron Cresswell to Everton’s potential left-back targets.

The position remains a problem one for the Blues all season, with Cuco Martina deputising in Leighton Baines’ absence while Luke Garbutt remains unregistered.

Martina, a right-back by trade, has failed to impress in the stand-in role which has seen Allardyce reportedly turn to his former West Ham ally Cresswell.

Allardyce signed Cresswell during his tenure in east London, with the Liverpool-born defender making over 150 appearances for the Hammers since 2014.

He also became a fully fledged England international during that time.

According to the Daily Mail, the 28-year-old could be tempted to return to his home town to link up with Allardyce again, this time at Goodison Park.

Cresswell’s boyhood loyalties to Liverpool are unlikely to deter him however West Ham’s reluctance to part with the defender could prove a stumbling block.

Ex-Everton boss David Moyes has regularly deployed the defender this season with 28 appearances in all competitions.
