Everton are reportedly considering a move for Bayern Munich’s Juan Bernat.
The left-back position has proved problematic for the Blues this season with both Ronald Koeman and Sam Allardyce struggling to find adequate fits for the role.
Leighton Baines’ injury continues to see Cuco Martina deputise in defence with no back-up options registered in the club’s Premier League squad for the season.
That has prompted Allardyce to make alternatives a priority in this month’s transfer window and is said to consider Bayern defender Bernat a viable option.
According to the Liverpool Echo, the Spain international has emerged as a target for Everton after falling to dislodge David Alaba at the Allianz Arena.
Bernat has made just two competitive appearances for Bayern this season and is entering the final 18 months of his contract with the Bundesliga champions.
The ex-Valencia defender, 24, is understood to be seeking regular first-team football away from Bavaria in a bid to play his way into Spain’s World Cup squad.
