Liverpool to pull off second January transfer coup

Liverpool could be on the verge of signing Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka.

Jurgen Klopp has already landed Virgil van Dijk in the January transfer window with a £75 million deal for the Southampton defender earlier this week.

Manchester City were also interested in Van Dijk’s signature but saw themselves beaten by the Reds, who made him the costliest defender in world football.

But reports in Germany suggest that Klopp could potentially pull off a second coup in the winter window by securing the capture of Goretzka.

Bild claim the highly rated 22-year-old has elected for a move to Anfield despite offers from Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Arsenal and Tottenham.

Goreztka can negotiate a free transfer with clubs from next month, with his existing deal at the Veltins Arena set to expire at the end of the current season.

An outcome on the Germany international’s future is expected to be announced shortly, with Liverpool expected to be firmly in the hunt for his services.
