Liverpool ‘courting’ Serie A defender

Liverpool are said to be ‘courting’ Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij.

The Reds made their first move of the winter window when they secured a £75 million deal for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk.

The world-record move for the Dutchman is likely to end their desire to strengthen in defence but not as far as Corriere dello Sport is concerned.

They claim that manager Jurgen Klopp remains interested in adding Lazio defender De Vrij to his defensive options.

De Vrij is out of contract in June and thus free to talk to European clubs in January under the Bosman ruling.

That makes him an ideal target for the Anfield outfit, who will be reluctant to spend big again to further strengthen their backline after splashing the cash on Van Dijk.

Liverpool are said to be one such side ‘courting’ his signature alongside the likes of Inter Milan and Barcelona.
