Virgil van Dijk insists he has ‘no regrets’ at trying to force a move to Liverpool.
Van Dijk submitted a transfer request to Southampton at the beginning of August in attempts to see a potentially record-breaking move to Anfield.
The Holland international had been in line to become the world’s costliest defender as part of the Reds’ ultimately failed pursuit of the centre-back.
Liverpool publicly apologised to Southampton and shelved their interest in van Dijk amid the threat of facing a Premier League probe into alleged ‘tapping up’.
But the 26-year-old remains unrepentant at last summer’s events and has refused to discount a possible exit from St Mary’s during the January transfer window.
“I have no regrets,” he told Fox Sports.
“Of course, I wanted to go one step up, but eventually Southampton did not want to let me go.
“But you’re a professional, so now I’ll give everything to the club.
“Halfway through the season, maybe we can see what’s possible.”
