Juventus hand Liverpool boost in Emre Can tussle

Juventus have ruled out a January move for Liverpool midfielder Emre Can.

Can is ticking down the final months of his current Anfield contract with still no signs of a long-term renewal beyond its expiry next summer.

The Reds are understood to have rebuffed an approach from Juve for the Germany international during the previous transfer window.

But the Serie A champions’ chief executive Beppe Marotta admits that any attempts to land Can are likely to be shelved for the next few months at least.

“We don’t think we are going to make a big signing in January,” he told Premium Sport.

“Our team is absolutely competitive and we have some very interesting midfielders like [Rodrigo] Bentancur who has already showed his qualities.

“As for Emre Can I don’t think Liverpool will sell him in January.

“We made an offer for him in the summer but the Reds didn’t sell him so I don’t think they’ll change their mind in the middle of the season.”
