Liverpool will ask RB Leipzig about potentially signing Naby Keita in January.
A deal worth in excess of £50 million was agreed between the two clubs last month to take the Guinea international to Anfield on July 1 next year.
However the Reds are hoping to fast-track Keita’s switch, with Leipzig currently facing up to a premature exit from the Champions League.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have fallen short of expectations by taking just one point from their opening two games in Europe’s elite club competition.
That has led to suggestions that Keita could be allowed to leave last season’s Bundesliga runners-up for Liverpool earlier than originally planned.
Anfield officials are said to be pessimistic about the chances of the 22-year-old being allowed to leave the Red Bull Arena six months early.
Keita is currently serving the final game of a three-match ban for a red card picked up in a 2-2 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach on September 16.
