Liverpool are targeting a move for Werder Bremen striker Max Kruse.
Kruse has caught the Reds’ attention after scoring 15 goals and creating seven assists as Bremen recorded an eighth-place finish in last season’s Bundesliga.
Reports in Germany claim that Jurgen Klopp has identified the 29-year-old as a possible incoming from what has been a frustrating summer at Anfield so far.
Interest in Virgil van Dijk ended just weeks into the transfer window amid the threat of Liverpool being embroiled in a ‘tapping up’ row with Southampton.
Attempts to land Naby Keita have been similarly futile with RB Leipzig refusing to part with the midfielder despite a substantial £66 million bid tabled this week.
However Kruse’s prospective signing will not come cheap due to a £10m buy-out clause recently expiring, allowing Bremen to name their price for the player.
With just under two years existing on his current deal at the Weserstadion, the Germany international is expected to be command a fee of around £16m.
SportBild claim that Premier League champions Chelsea are also in the hunt for Kruse, who rejoined his boyhood club last summer after an eight-year absence.
