La Liga playmaker in line for Everton FC switch

Everton are reportedly set to beat Swansea to the signing of Jonathan Viera.

Viera had emerged as the Welsh club’s preferred signing should the Blues meet their £50 million valuation for their player of the season Gylfi Sigurdsson.

But with the asking price for the Iceland international remaining too high, Ronald Koeman is considering a different option to solve his attacking recruitment plan.

According to Marca, the Everton manager is prepared to meet Viera’s release clause with Las Palmas, which currently stands at just shy of £27 million.

The move would represent a huge blow for Swansea, who have extensively tracked the playmaker amid the uncertainty over Sigurdsson’s future.

Viera was involved in 14 goals for Las Palmas, both as scorer and assistee, as they secured a comfortable mid-table finish in La Liga last season.

Sigurdsson missed Swansea’s pre-season trip to the United States as he held talks in an attempt to resolve his future at the Liberty Stadium.
