Everton FC stepping up Sigurdsson pursuit

Gylfi Sigurdsson is set to become Everton’s latest summer spending spree target.

Ronald Koeman continues to track the Swansea City playmaker after the Blues kick-started their summer spending with a £54 million double deal on Thursday.

The arrival of Davy Klaassen from Ajax was expected to signal a potential end to Koeman’s pursuit of Sigurdsson, who has been a long-standing target.

But it has done little to dampen the club’s interest in the Iceland international as he aims to add further depth to his squad for the 2017/18 campaign.

Swansea remain unwilling to part with Sigurdsson, even going as far to publicly issue a hands-off warning to Everton and other potential suitors this summer.

A £40m price tag has been set on the 27-year-old but offers no guarantees that the Welsh club will still part with last season’s player of the year.

According to Wales Online, Sigurdsson is only prepared to call an end to his time at the Liberty Stadium if a top Champions League club were to make an offer.

Former club Tottenham,Leicester City, Southampton and West Ham have all been credited with interest, meaning Everton face strong competition for the player.

Sigurdsson managed nine goals and 13 assists as an ever-present for Swansea in their successful battle for Premier League survival.
