Liverpool are in talks over a deal for Sporting Lisbon’s Gelson Martins.
Martins has emerged as a potential Reds signing after negotiations for Mohamed Salah threatened to be derailed by Roma’s valuation of the winger.
The 22-year-old’s release clause with Sporting is currently in the region of £50 million but Sporting’s Champions League absence will make that fee negotiable.
Attention turned to Martins, who contributed a combined 21 goals and assists for the Portuguese giants last season, as Roma hold out for a higher fee for Salah.
A £28m bid was rejected by the Serie A runners-up last week as they target a fee which would see Liverpool’s current £35m club transfer record broken.
Bayern Munich’s Douglas Costa and Lazio forward Keita Balde are also being considered as viable alternatives to Salah by Jurgen Klopp this summer.
