Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool have ‘spoken’ to several of their summer transfer targets.
Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk and Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon are understood to be in contention as part of the Reds’ planned squad rebuilding.
Fellow full-back Andrew Robertson, previously a target 12 months ago, is also set to be pursued following Hull City’s relegation from the Premier League.
Roma winger Mohamed Salah has emerged as a renewed target after he turned down a move to Liverpool in favour of joining Chelsea in summer 2014.
And Klopp has revealed that attempts to strengthen have already begun in earnest.
He said: “The world is not full of players who will make us better immediately.
“But clearly there are a few out there – we have spoken to them.
“We have a really good side when our first 11, 12, 13, 14 players are fit.”
Klopp had previously warned that a potential Champions League qualification shortfall may have impacted Anfield’s transfer strategy over the close season.
But the Liverpool manager insists that a return to the continental elite will not impact severely.
“The Champions League, for different reasons, is a wonderful competition,” added Klopp.
“You can earn a lot of money there – that is money we did not have last year. That is very interesting and is one part of it, but we are already in a good position.
“We are a club without financial problems and we have money to spend, but it makes sense to think before we spend and that is what we are doing.”
