English duo eye late Everton FC midfielder bids

Crystal Palace and Newcastle United are weighing up late moves for Everton midfielder James McCarthy.

The Republic of Ireland international finds himself down the pecking order at Goodison Park this season.

He has made just eight appearances in the Premier League so far but the arrival of Morgan Schneiderlin in January, as well as the emergence of Tom Davies, leaves him further out of contention.

The increased competition in midfield has already seen Tom Cleverley depart on loan to Watford in search of first team football.

Now, it seems McCarthy could follow him out the door with the Daily Mail reporting that Crystal Palace and Newcastle United are weighing up moves.

The Eagles currently sit in the bottom three of the Premier League and manager Sam Allardyce is keen to add to his squad before Tuesday’s transfer window deadline.

Newcastle, meanwhile, are second in the Championship table and eyeing up a return to the Premier League at the end of the season.
