Everton FC eye Italy international as next goalkeeper

Everton have reportedly identified Mattia Perin as their top goalkeeping target.

Ronald Koeman continues to rotate between Maarten Stekelenburg and Joel Robles but is keen to source a new long-term stopper for the Blues.

He was previously frustrated in his attempts to land Leicester City stopper Kasper Schmeichel while Everton passed up the chance to sign England no.1 Joe Hart.

But Perin’s agent has claimed that the Italy international is the latest name in the frame after he was extensively scouted by Goodison Park officials this season.

A cruciate knee injury recently sidelined the Genoa goalkeeper for up to four months but representative Matteo Roggi insists Everton remain long-term admirers.

“I rule-out any possible transfer in this window,” Roggi told Sportitalia.

“That’s even though the boy has been followed by Everton since last year, they came to see him almost every Sunday.

“I don’t know anything about [interest from] Napoli. I’ve never spoken with them.

“However, even without the injury, he would have stayed at Genoa until June.”
