Xherdan Shaqiri has claimed that Bayern Munich blocked a proposed move to Liverpool.
Shaqiri secured a move to Stoke City at the beginning of last season despite also being heavily linked with the Reds’ local rivals Everton at the time.
But the Swiss international had been eyeing an exit from the Bundesliga champions just 12 months prior after falling out of favour under Pep Guardiola.
And Shaqiri, 25, has now revealed that he was on the verge of a move to Anfield in 2014 after attracting interest from Brendan Rodgers but Bayern kyboshed the switch.
“I wanted to leave in summer by all means and had offers from Liverpool and Atletico,” he told Spox.
“Brendan Rodgers called me several times before the World Cup.
“But Bayern forbid me to leave.”
