Liverpool will take on Barcelona this summer as part of their pre-season schedule.
Reports in Spain claim the reigning European champions will face three British clubs, which includes the Reds, in the International Champions Cup as part of their preparations for the forthcoming campaign.
Billy Hogan, Liverpool’s chief commercial officer, said: “It will be great to compete in a tournament with some of the best teams in the world.
“We’re delighted to have been asked to take part and very excited to see as many of our American fans as possible while we’re in the country.
“Opportunities like this not only help the team prepare for the coming season, but give our fans the chance to watch the team play, no matter how far from Anfield they might be.”
In addition to facing Liverpool, Barca will also face Premier League champions-elect Leicester City and Celtic, with the latter taking place at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium on July 30.
Liverpool will come up against the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar as well as former Kop hero Luis Suarez on Saturday, August 6. The game, a 3pm kick-off, will take place at an as yet unconfirmed European venue.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have been tipped to make a return to the Irish capital following two successive visits in recent years; a 1-0 reversal to Celtic in August 2013 followed by a 4-0 win over Shamrock Rovers in an end-of-season encounter just nine months later.
Also on the Anfield club’s schedule for the tournament, in which they reached the final two years ago, will be clashes with Chelsea at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on July 28 followed by a rematch of the 2005 Champions League final with AC Milan on July 31 at the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.
Other clubs taking part in the pre-season trophy will be Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Tottenham.
