Jurgen Klopp will face Borussia Dortmund for the first time since becoming Liverpool manager after the two clubs were drawn together in the Europa League quarter finals.
Klopp enjoyed a success-laden seven years with the Bundesliga club, winning back-to-back titles and a German Cup in addition to reaching the Champions League final in 2013.
And the Reds boss will be afforded an emotional homecoming after UEFA’s draw for the last eight pitted the 48-year-old against his former employers following last night’s win over Manchester United.
Klopp admitted that he was keen to avoid a rematch with Dortmund until at least the final of this season’s competition.
He said: “I have contacts with my Dortmund friends, they all would like to play against us – but in Basle (in the final).
“But you saw all the results, there are only good teams left in the race. It’s cool. Last eight? Perfect.”
Liverpool will travel to Signal Iduna Park on April 7 with the return leg taking place at Anfield a week later.
Dortmund last visited Merseyside in August 2014, under Klopp, as part of a pre-season friendly between the sides but the last competitive meeting was back in September 2001, when goals from Vladimir Smicer and Stephen Wright helped the hosts to a 2-0 Champions League group stage win.
Both sides also contested the 1966 European Cup Winners’ Cup final at Hampden Park, which the Germans won 2-1.
