Liverpool have been hit by a fresh injury blow in their defeat to Chelsea.

The Premier League champions were hit with a stoppage-time sucker punch in Saturday’s Stamford Bridge encounter, their second in as many games.

Arne Slot’s side also lost their standing as league leaders with title rivals Arsenal able to overtake them by a point and with a superior goal difference.

But the visitors’ night was compounded by news of Ibrahima Konate picking up an injury that prompted his withdrawal midway through the second half.

Slot confirmed post-match that the defender, who was replaced by Curtis Jones, is now set to be assessed in a fresh concern to his side.

The Reds have already lost one centre-back with Giovanni Leoni out for the rest of the season while goalkeeper Alisson is also sidelined by injury.

“I don’t know if it is a big injury,” admitted Slot.

“But what I do know is he limped a little bit and when I asked him he said he felt his quad a little bit.

“Then, for me, all alarm bells go off because in another sprint you never know if that is going to go good.

“It was also already a substitution I had in mind, maybe for a few minutes or a little bit later, because the right centre-back had a lot of ball possession and we needed to create from that position. We all know Ryan [Gravenberch] is quite good in that.

“It might be OK that he went off early enough but it was clear I had to take him off because he was limping.”
