Liverpool have confirmed Alisson will miss Sunday’s clash with Chelsea.

Alisson was withdrawn early into the second half of Tuesday’s Champions League defeat against Galatasaray after attempting to prevent an attack.

The Brazil international is now set to be absent for this weekend’s Premier League showdown at Stamford Bridge with Giorgi Mamardashvili stepping in.

It means that Alisson has now missed 56 games for the Reds through injury after being ruled out for 32 of them in the previous two seasons alone.

Arne Slot’s side are also sweating on Hugo Ekitike’s fitness ahead of the trip to the capital after he was also forced off in Istanbul after an issue stretching.

“He felt something when he had to reach for the ball,” revealed the Liverpool head coach.

“I think we all know which one it was when we were trying to force something.

“I think at that moment in time, on the other side there was someone on the floor as well, so the referee blew his whistle.

“I wasn’t even thinking we had an injury, but Hugo felt something.

“After the game, that’s always the difficult thing with these moments when players feel like it is not too bad.

“But when you just walk around it is something different than when you make a sprint or have to shoot on target.

“He said he couldn’t continue so we had to take him off. Let’s see how he is for the weekend.”
