Jeremie Frimpong is set to miss Liverpool’s remaining games in August.
Frimpong’s impact since a summer move from Bayer Leverkusen was stymied in the Premier League champions’ opening win over Bournemouth.
The Netherlands international was withdrawn midway through the second half of last Friday’s Anfield encounter with a suspected hamstring problem.
Arne Slot confirmed on Thursday that Frimpong is now set to be sidelined for his side’s clashes with Newcastle United and Arsenal in the opening month.
It means the Reds will be without any established right-backs for their trip to St James’ Park on Monday with Conor Bradley still working his way back.
“The medical team was completely right about Jeremie to tell me that I had to take him off,” said Slot,
“Because he is out until the end of the international break and that happened in the game.
“I already said immediately after the game that it had nothing to do with how he played, but we felt he had an issue with his hamstring.
“With ‘we’ I don’t mean me, but the medical staff – and they were completely right.
“It was a good call to take him off, otherwise he would have maybe been out for longer.
“We expect to have him back after the international break.”
