Liverpool reached the Women’s FA Cup semi-final with a surprise win over Arsenal.

Interim manager Amber Whiteley sealed back-to-back victories since taking over from Matt Beard thanks to a late moment of fortune at Meadow Park on Sunday.

The Reds scored the only goal of their last-eight encounter when a Sophie Roman Haug strike hit the post before rebounding off goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar.

“I don’t know if I’ve got the words to be honest,” said Whiteley.

“I’m just so proud of everyone today. I thought we were so well organised.

“The work rate was absolutely incredible, and we limited their chances and put them under pressure in front of their own goal.

“I think we deserve to be in the hat for the semi-finals.

“We wanted to make it difficult for them to play centrally. I thought the shape was brilliant from start to finish.

“We forced them to the outside and I thought we controlled the centre of the pitch really well and we got our reward from it.”

Their reward will be another trip south as they take on five-time winners and current WSL leaders Chelsea on April 13 in their bid to reach the Wembley showpiece.

Holders Manchester United will entertain Manchester City in the other semi-final.
