Arne Slot will serve a two-game touchline ban for his Merseyside derby red card.
The Liverpool head coach was dismissed by referee Michael Oliver after the final whistle of his side’s 2-2 draw with Everton alongside assistant Sipke Hulshoff.
It means Slot and his second in command will sit out Wednesday’s home clash with Newcastle and the following meeting with Southampton at Anfield on March 8.
First-team coach John Heitinga will take charge of the Reds from the dugout in the pair’s absence, which leaves them free to return to duty for the Carabao Cup final.
It is the second time in his time at the helm that Slot has been forced to serve a touchline ban, having previously sat out one game for picking up three bookings.
Slot was also handed a £70,000 fine by the Football Association after accepting an improper conduct charge while Hulshoff received a £7,000 penalty for the same offence.
The Dutchman admitted following his dismissal that ’emotion’ got the better of him when approaching Oliver after Liverpool were denied by a stoppage-time leveller.
“I think what happened was that the extra time, the additional five minutes that ended up being eight, a lot happened and the emotions got the better of me,” he said at the time.
“If I look back at it, I would love to do it differently. I’m hoping to do [things] differently next time as well.”
Separately, Liverpool have seen a £50,000 fine imposed for failing to control their players and staff in the fiery scenes at the end of the last derby at Goodison Park.
Curtis Jones was also sent off during the skirmishes and has since served a one-game ban, making his return to action in the midweek stalemate with Aston Villa.
