Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has revealed he kept tabs on Arsenal’s slip-up.

The Londoners are still attempting to go toe-to-toe with Arne Slot’s side in the battle for this season’s Premier League title despite falling 11 points adrift.

A surprise win for West Ham on Saturday coupled with the Reds’ victory over Manchester City just 24 hours later ensured the gap is now in double figures.

And Mac Allister admits that he tuned into the closing stages of the Gunners’ home defeat but would still much prefer to track them on the pitch.

He said: “Of course you watch the game. I did watch it when I got home, the last 30 minutes.

“You want them to lose, I think that is pretty normal because that makes our life easier.

“But we have many games ahead which are going to be really difficult and we know they are a really good team who will push us as well.

“When I watch I don’t enjoy [it], I prefer to play them.”

Mac Allister’s importance for Liverpool this season has dovetailed with the form of his midfield cohorts Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai.

All three arrived at Anfield in summer 2023 and the Argentina international believes the trio compliment each other perfectly in the engine room.

“It’s always easier when you have good players around and that’s our case,” added Mac Allister.

“We have a really good team and really good midfielders who came to the club the same time as me, not long ago.

“We are complementing each other really well and we are happy to play with each other.

“Dom is really important for us. I think you could see physically he is really good; he can score and also assist.

“He is doing really well and is really important for us.”
