Virgil van Dijk wants Liverpool to make their title run-in ‘horrible’ as possible.
Arne Slot’s side moved 11 points clear on Sunday as their quest for a first Premier League title in five years was boosted by a win at Manchester City.
The current leaders have seven of their remaining games at home including three on the spin against Newcastle United, Southampton and Everton.
But the Anfield crowd were noticeably anxious during the closing stages of their most recent outing against Wolves with their side holding a slender lead.
Van Dijk, however, believes that supporters can help fire Slot’s charges to a 20th domestic crown by creating an intimidating atmosphere on home soil.
He said: “It’s pretty normal, [with] humans, there could be some anxious feelings kicking in, and that could still be the case.
“But I think it only helps us and them as well to make Anfield horrible for the opponent.
“Most of the time we have been doing that, and obviously the way we play obviously helps with that as well. How many home games are left? Seven out of 11.
“So lets make sure those seven are going to be amazing, as loud as possible, and I don’t think we have to speak about it, because normally that is the case.”
Arsenal’s defeat to West Ham prior to Liverpool’s game allowed them to take a double-figure lead with a first league victory at the Etihad Stadium in 10 years.
Travelling fans broke into chants of ‘we’re gonna win the league’ in the closing stages of their latest win despite the north Londoners having a game in hand.
“It was a big win but I think a couple of days ago there was noise about other things, and it could go the other way,” added the defender.
“Obviously, the result on Saturday and the result of this gives them (the fans) the belief.
“But it’s down to us to just keep focusing on the game ahead of us. That’s what we do and that’s what I’ve told the boys as well.
“It’s all about recovery now and being ready for Newcastle, which is a big test as well.”
