Arne Slot admits ’emotions got the better’ of him in the Merseyside derby.

Slot and assistant Sipke Hulshoff were one of four retrospective red cards after Wednesday’s final-ever Goodison Park encounter ended in a 2-2 draw.

The Liverpool head coach received his marching orders within seconds of shaking referee Michael Oliver’s hand amid the fiery post-match scenes.

A Football Association investigation will determine whether Slot is hit with a two-match ban, as the Premier League erroneously claimed on their website.

But while the Dutchman awaits an outcome after Sunday’s visit of Wolves, he conceded his reaction to Everton’s 98th-minute leveller was out of character.

He said: “I think what happened was that the extra time, the additional five minutes that ended up being eight, a lot happened and the emotions got the better of me.

“If I look back at it, I would love to do it differently. I’m hoping to do [things] differently next time as well.

“What exactly has been said or what has happened, I just told you there is an ongoing process and I don’t want to disturb that.”

Slot also confirmed he will speak with Curtis Jones over his own conduct after the midfielder’s dismissal ruled him out of this weekend’s Anfield encounter.

“I like a lot that he stands up for the team – for the team and for the fans – but there are also other ways to do that maybe,” insists Slot.

“I will talk with him about that, but it is the same for me. I should’ve acted differently after the game as well.

“It’s an emotional sport and sometimes individuals, out of emotion, make the wrong decision. That’s definitely what I did.”
