The Premier League have deleted a statement claiming Arne Slot has been hit with a two-game ban.

Slot and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff were both sent off amid ugly scenes at the end of Wednesday’s final-ever Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

Under top flight rules, the pair’s dismissals prevented Liverpool from conducting their post-match media duties duties following the 2-2 draw.

A post on the top flight’s official website stated on Thursday that Slot was given a red card for using ‘offensive, insulting or abusive language’.

As a result, the Dutchman had received a two-match touchline ban which would rule him out of Sunday’s visit of Wolves and the trip to Aston Villa.

But the Premier League performed a U-turn on that claim, opening up the possibility of Slot still being able to oversee the weekend’s Anfield encounter.

The Football Association are expected to rule on the incident, which also saw Curtis Jones retrospectively sent off after clashing with Abdoulaye Doucoure.

A decision on whether Slot will face charges is set to be taken upon a review of referee Michael Oliver’s report into the game and the ensuing fallout.

If the speculated two-game suspension is upheld, Liverpool’s head coach will miss the Villa clash and the showdown with Manchester City on February 23.
