Liverpool parade draws half a million crowds

Half a million people lined the streets to celebrate Liverpool’s domestic double.

Jurgen Klopp’s side undertook a nine-mile open top bus parade through the city on Sunday following their Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.

Their return from threatened to be bittersweet after losing to the Spanish champions and missing out on the Premier League title a week earlier.

But thousands lined a three-hour long route from Allerton Maze to the Strand just to see the Reds showcasing their FA Cup and Carabao Cup trophies.

Joining the first-team squad on the parade route were their counterparts from the Women’s side, who return to the WSL after winning the Championship.

Superstar DJ Calvin Harris also travelled to Merseyside to provide a fitting soundtrack for Klopp and his players aboard their double-decker bus.

“Without a shadow of a doubt, no club in the world – this world – that they lost the Champions League final the night before and the people arrive here in the shape they are, the mood they are,” said Klopp.

“Absolutely outstanding. This is the best club in the world – I don’t care what other people think!

“I’m proud of the players but I’m proud of these people, to be honest. Unbelievable.

“Yesterday in the stadium some things happened that nobody understood, our families were in trouble, all these kinds of things. Now we come here and see this, when you see the eyes of the people, it’s incredible.

“That’s the best sign you can get: you don’t have to win, you just need to put all that you have in, really throw everything on the pitch and the people of Liverpool love you.

“We celebrate life, we celebrate the season, we celebrate our competitions, we celebrate the championship [of 2020].”
