The Football Association have written to Harvey Elliott after he was seen holding a flare during Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final celebrations.

Elliott took part in the festivities as Jurgen Klopp’s side edged out Chelsea in Sunday’s Wembley showpiece after winning 11-10 in a penalty shootout.

In front of the Reds’ 33,000-strong allocation, the midfielder could be seen carrying an ignited red flare thrown from the stands after the match.

English football’s governing body have subsequently contacted Elliott for his version of events around the incident as part of their post-game observations.

The 18-year-old had been a late inclusion on the Liverpool substitutes’ bench after Thiago Alcantara suffered a hamstring injury during the warm-up.

He played the final 10 minutes of normal time before seeing out a further half-hour of extra time and the shootout which his side eventually won.
