Liverpool to wear FIFA patch against Wolves

Liverpool have been allowed to wear their FIFA Club World Cup winners’ badge for one Premier League game.

Jurgen Klopp’s side ended a 39-year wait to be crowned world champions with last Saturday’s extra-time win over Flamengo at Qatar’s Khalifa Stadium.

In the immediate aftermath, Anfield officials sought permission from the Premier League to sport the distinctive gold shield in upcoming games.

The league’s current regulations forbid anything other than charitable messages being added to a team’s shirt midway through the season.

But the Reds have been granted temporary dispensation to wear their world champions’ badge once, expected to be against Wolves on December 29.

The club will need to submit a separate application to display it on their kits in the FA Cup ahead of their Merseyside derby clash with Everton.

They are however free to wear it in their Champions League campaign.

Klopp, meanwhile, has insisted the league leaders will not be caught resting on their laurels despite opening up a 10-point lead in the title race.

Liverpool travel to second-placed Leicester City on Boxing Day with a chance to extend the gulf further with a game in-hand over their nearest challengers.

“If you have a little success and you get carried away by it you will quickly realise that it was your last one, whatever it is,” said Klopp.

“We don’t get carried away by anything. Absolutely not. We are completely focused on the next step. That’s all I can say about it. I was always like this.

“Never in my life wanted to have a party before there was a real reason for it. When there’s a party with a real reason then I’m in 100 per cent.

“But before, I really don’t need it. It’s not that I have like 20 per cent parties or stuff like this.

“I can easily wait for the proper one so [there’s] no chance to get us in a mood to forget the things we have to do.

“The next time we have to prove that is Leicester on Boxing Day.”
