Liverpool FC reveal 125th anniversary home kit

Liverpool have revealed a new home kit for their 125th anniversary season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will were the new strip for first time at Anfield on May 21 for their Premier League game of this season against Middlesbrough.

The Reds’ kit for the 2017/18 campaign is reminiscent of the V-neck shirts worn during the club’s most halcyon period of the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Another note to that period is the tonal pin stripes which bear similarities with the shirt worn in the 1984 European Cup final against Roma in the Italian capital.

New Balance have also reverted to the shade of deep red which became synonymous with the club under Bill Shankly’s all-conquering 1960s team.

A new commemorative crest is another focal point in the design, with the Liverbird now flanked by the years of its 1892 inception and its anniversary date.

As with recent Liverpool kits, the Hillsborough disaster is remembered with 96 emblem and eternal flames sit at the nape of the shirt’s neck.

“There is a huge sense of pride that comes with wearing an LFC shirt, and it is always an honour, but this kit is special,” said Jordan Henderson.

“Our 125th anniversary is a great moment for us all to celebrate our heritage and this kit really reflects that, especially as it features the anniversary crest.

“We’ll wear it with pride.”

The goalkeeper kit also lends itself to those worn by legendary number-ones Ray Clemence, Bruce Grobbelaar and Tommy Lawrence with a rich green design.

With a white crest and branding of both New Balance and sponsors Standard Chartered, it is completed by a tonal three-colour sleeve pattern.

Fan can pre-order the new kit online and in-store from 9am on May 27, ahead of its general release on June 19. For more information visit store.liverpoolfc.com.
