Jordan Henderson’s Euro 2016 hopes lie in tatters after the Liverpool captain was ruled out for the rest of this season.
The England international limped out of last night’s Europa League quarter-final with Borussia Dortmund with a knee problem and scans have since revealed that the extent of Henderson’s injury is lateral collateral ligament damage.
With a prolonged lay-off of between six and eight weeks, the 25-year-old now faces a race against time to stake a claim in Roy Hodgson’s squad for this summer’s finals in France.
Henderson has endured an injury-plagued first season since taking over as Liverpool captain as he was sidelined in the formative months of the campaign after breaking a bone in his foot during a training session
He also revealed that the heel injury which saw him limp out of the opening day win over Bournemouth at Anfield was due to an incurable condition.
