German police issue ‘pyro’ warning to Liverpool FC fans ahead of Dortmund trip

Liverpool fans will face prosecution if they are found carrying pyrotechnics at tomorrow’s Europa League tie with Borussia Dortmund.

The Anfield club were charged by UEFA after fans set off fireworks at Old Trafford in last month’s clash between Manchester United in the previous round.

And in an open letter issued to supporters set to travel to Signal Iduna Park for tomorrow’s quarter-final clash, believed to be 3,500 in number, Polizei Dortmund have advised travelling Reds fans that the use of pyrotechnics inside the stadium is strictly prohibited, with any fans caught in possession of such items facing prosecution.

“We are aware that supporting the team is an important part of the match,” read the letter.

“Nevertheless we would like to inform you that the carrying and burning of flares, smoke bombs, sparklers, fireworks or any other non-approved pyrotechnics is prohibited inside of the stadium as well as in public areas. Any violation will lead to legal consequences and will be punished.

“The police of Dortmund do not condone misbehaviour of any kind and will exclude those supporters from the match.

“Therefore please do not use any kind of fireworks or pyrotechnics at any time during your stay in Dortmund. You endanger yourself and others.”
