Former Liverpool FC stalwart snubbed Barcelona during Anfield spell

Daniel Agger has revealed that he turned down a move to Barcelona while at Liverpool.

The Denmark international enjoyed eight years at Anfield before returning to his homeland and former club Brondby in 2014 but had no shortage of potential suitors during that time.

Manchester City and Barca were among those who expressed an interest in the defender but Agger, now 31, insists that he harbours no regrets over declining the current European champions’ advances.

“Barcelona was an option for me in 2013 but when I made my decision back then it was the right decision to stay at Liverpool at the time,” he told Ekstra Bladet.

“It is not something I regret today, but when I think back, it could have been fun to try.

“Three or four years ago Spain might have suited me well but that is not how I decided and I will never regret the decision.”
