Liverpool FC lining up Jurgen Klopp reunion with Mario Gotze

Liverpool are lining up a summer move for Mario Gotze, with the Bayern Munich playmaker keen on a reunion with Jurgen Klopp.

The attacker’s future at the current Bundesliga leaders appears increasingly ominous after struggling with injury and falling out of favour under current manager Pep Guardiola in recent months.

And despite Guardiola set to join Manchester City this summer, Gotze is prepared to once again link up with Klopp, who oversaw his development and breakthrough at Borussia Dortmund, at Anfield.

Germany manager Joachim Low has urged the 23-year-old to assess his future following discussions with incoming Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti but the player is understood to favour working with Klopp again.

Liverpool have already secured the services of Schalke defender Joel Matip and Serbian midfielder Marko Grujic as part of the summer rebuilding process.

But with a year remaining on his current deal at the Allianz Arena, Gotze represents a marquee signing firmly ingrained in Klopp’s Gegenpressing philosophy.

Premier League rivals Arsenal are also said to be keen on the player who scored Germany’s winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final, who could be available for as little as £15 million.
