Everton FC must improve pressing game, insists Ronald Koeman

Ronald Koeman believes Everton have room for improvement following their friendly win over MK Dons.

Goals from Gerard Deulofeu, Ross Barkley and Muhamed Besic helped the Blues to a comfortable 3-1 victory over the League One side.

But while Koeman was pleased with the result, he believes certain aspects of Everton’s performance require some refinement.

He said: “In the first half we had some problems to keep the team compact, to do the right pressing at the right moment. That was not good.

“What you like to see is changing of the ball possession. You like to play short but, if not, put the balls in the channels. Out of that, we scored twice.

“But the total performance, in my opinion, we have to improve. The team, the players, we need to press better.

“The pitch in some stages of the game was too long. If you press up front, it means the midfielders they need to push up as well and it’s the same for the defenders.

“If one is pressing and the player behind is not following, you get problems. On that we need to improve.”
