Neal Maupay is set to seal his Everton exit before the transfer deadline.
Maupay has failed to impress during a two-year spell at Goodison Park in which he scored just one goal in 32 appearances since joining from Brighton.
The French striker, who spent last season on loan with Brentford, is in the process of finalising a move to Marseille on an initial season-long loan.
A return to his homeland will be worth an initial £5 million to the Blues while an obligation to make the deal permanent will pocket the club £8.4M overall.
The club will also retain a 20% sell-on clause as part of the deal which comes a week after Maupay was engaged in a verbal spat with several irate fans.
A handful of supporters abused Everton’s players as they prepared to board the train at Euston Station following Saturday’s 4-0 humbling by Tottenham.
Footage shared on social media showed Maupay responding to the insults aimed at him and several teammates as they walked down the platform.
The 28-year-old inflamed the situation by responding to the clip going viral by sharing it with a commentary on his official X, formerly Twitter, account.
“Imagine another job where it’s normalised to get abuse like this,” he wrote.
“Hanging around at a train station to scream at men who are trying their best…”
