Jarrad Branthwaite has been omitted from England’s Euro 2024 squad.

The Everton defender made his senior international bow as a second-half substitute during Monday’s friendly win over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He was originally called up for the Three Lions’ previous round of friendlies in late March but failed to feature in the games against Brazil and Belgium.

Branthwaite featured in 41 of 44 games for Sean Dyche’s side last term, securing both the Players’ Player and Young Player of the Season awards.

But Gareth Southgate confirmed the 21-year-old’s absence on Thursday when he announced his final 26-man squad for the tournament in Germany.

Explaining the decision to omit Branthwaite, he said: “I think it’s a bit early for Jarrad, for him to be in ahead of the others.

“It wouldn’t have been the right call, at this stage.”

Branthwaite’s teammate Jordan Pickford, meanwhile, was drafted in for a fifth international tournament as England’s established first-choice goalkeeper.
