Everton have appealed Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s red card at Crystal Palace.

Calvert-Lewin was dismissed late during Thursday’s FA Cup third round draw at Selhurst Park following a sliding challenge on the hosts’ Nathaniel Clyne.

The Blues’ striker had not initially been carded for the minimal-contact incident but referee Chris Kavanagh retrospectively sent him off after a VAR review.

As it stands, Calvert-Lewin will miss the next three games for Sean Dyche’s side including a replay with the Eagles at Goodison Park in a fortnight’s time.

But Everton officials confirmed on Friday that they have informed the Football Association of a decision to challenge the 26-year-old’s harsh dismissal.

A club statement read: “Everton Football Club has today notified the FA of its decision to appeal the red card issued to Dominic Calvert-Lewin in our FA Cup third round fixture at Crystal Palace on Thursday evening.”
