Everton have slammed racist abuse aimed at Amadou Onana as ‘vile’.

Onana shared the offending message on his Instagram account following a four-goal drubbing for Sean Dyche’s side by Aston Villa last weekend.

The Belgium international is the second Blues player to be targeted at the start of the season after Neal Maupay was abused online by a Fulham fan.

Goodison Park officials have launched an investigation into the latest abuse aimed at Onana and will work with Merseyside Police on any potential action.

A club statement said: “Everton Football Club strongly condemns any form of racist and discriminatory abuse towards our players.

“The club is aware of a racist post targeted at Amadou Onana. Such abuse is vile and will not and should not be tolerated.

“The club is conducting an investigation to identify the individual responsible and will also be supporting police with any investigation they conduct.”
