Long-serving Everton director to join Man Utd

Everton’s director of football operations is set to leave the club.

David Harrison has headed up various roles in the Goodison Park corridors of power over the previous 27 years, starting as manager of the ticket office.

The highly-respected executive served as club secretary between 2002 and June 2018 before being installed as the club’s director of football operations.

But the Blues confirmed on Friday morning that Harrison will be departing at the end of February to take up an identical position with Manchester United.

“Everton Football Club can confirm its Director of Football Operations, David Harrison, will leave the club at the end of this month to take up a new senior position at Manchester United,” read a club statement.

“David was appointed as Everton’s Director of Football Operations in June 2018, having served as club secretary since 2002.

“Before becoming club Secretary, David was manager of the ticket office for seven years.

“During his time at Everton, David has also served as a non-executive director of Liverpool County FA.

“Everyone at Everton would like to thank David for his outstanding dedication to the football club over the past 27 years and wishes him well in his future career.”

Jonathan Williams, who served as Harrison’s assistant for over a decade, is expected to assume the day-to-day responsibilities of football operations.

Speaking to the Old Trafford club’s official website, Harrison said: “I’m excited to be taking this role at time of such opportunity and promise for Manchester United.

“I will always cherish my memories of 27 years at Everton and wish everyone at Goodison and Finch Farm all the best for the future.

“Now, my focus is on helping Manchester United create the best possible operating environment to support success on the pitch.”
