Everton and Liverpool have been charged over fracas in the Merseyside derby.

Jurgen Klopp’s side took the spoils from Monday’s 242nd meeting between the sides at Anfield but tensions boiled over during the game’s final stages.

Andy Robertson came to blows with Jordan Pickford after the Reds’ left-back kicked the ball away after he had been flagged offside in the 86th minute.

The act saw both sets of players squaring up on the pitch alongside their respective benches as Amadou Onana and Kostas Tsimikas visibly needled.

On Thursday, the Football Association confirmed that it had charged the two Merseyside clubs for failing to control their players during the flashpoint.

“Liverpool and Everton have been charged following a mass confrontation during the 86th minute of their Premier League match on Monday 13 February,” read an FA statement.

“It’s alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players and/or benches conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour.

“Liverpool and Everton have until Monday 20 February to provide responses to their charges.”
