Everton fans staged protests against the club following a farcical end to the January.
Tuesday’s transfer deadline saw the Goodison Park club become the only team in the Premier League not to make any additions during the window.
Majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri reassured supporters the Blues would strengthen its attacking options by sourcing a striker before the 11pm cut-off.
But late efforts to source a forward failed with bids for Beto Betuncal at Udinese and Watford’s Ismaila Sarr both rejected by their existing clubs.
Rennes winger Kamaldeen Sulemana, who director of football Kevin Thelwell had long tracked, joined fellow strugglers Southampton in an £18 million deal.
Genk’s Paul Onuachu also turned down a move to Merseyside to join the Saints, who sit below Sean Dyche’s side in the relegation zone on goal difference.
Other attacking targets to reject Everton on deadline day included Michy Batsuhayi, Thorgan Hazard, Jean-Philippe Mateta and Conor Gallagher.
Interest in ex-Swansea and West Ham striker Andre Ayew has yet to develop but the 33-year-old free agent could still sign outside of the market deadline.
Tuesday’s events marked a farcical end to Everton’s latest recruitment plans, with Arnaut Danjuma snubbing the club in favour of a loan with Tottenham.
Homegrown winger Anthony Gordon also joined Newcastle in a deal worth an initial £40M prior to Dyche’s appointment as Frank Lampard’s successor.
Disenfranchised fans gathered outside the club’s Finch Farm training ground, where Dyche left shortly after 9.30pm, to demonstrate against the hierarchy.
Several banners, including one labelling Moshiri, chairman Bill Kenwright and CEO Denise Barrett-Baxendale as ‘liars’ were hung from the facility’s entrance.
The three executives also featured on an image hung, separately, in close proximity to Goodison declaring ‘Your time is up – get out of our club’.
Further protests are planned for Saturday’s clash with Premier League leaders Arsenal, with fans set to hold a pre-match march and a post-match sit-in.
