Everton have agreed a deal with Newcastle United for Anthony Gordon.

Gordon missed first-team training on three consecutive days as he hoped to secure a move away from Goodison Park to Eddie Howe’s high-flying side.

Although the Kirkdale-born player’s absence on Tuesday was understood to have been planned, no explanation was offered for the ensuing days.

The Blues’ hierarchy had been holding out for a £60 million valuation to part with the winger but the Magpies were initially reluctant to go above £35M.

However both parties reached a compromise that will see Gordon heading to St James’ Park in a package worth an initial £40M, potentially rising to £45M.

Prior to Frank Lampard’s sacking, Everton had hoped to safeguard their winger’s future with a new long-term contract but talks reached an impasse.

Sean Dyche is expected to be installed as Lampard’s successor this weekend, having impressed the Goodison hierarchy in talks over the vacant position.
